Information
Accessibility
This site is built to WCAG 2.2 Level AA. Where it falls short, we want to know.
The website
This site is built with:
- Full keyboard access, with a skip-to-content link and visible focus outlines on every interactive element.
- Semantic landmarks and a single, ordered heading hierarchy on each page.
- Descriptive alternative text on meaningful images, and decorative images hidden from assistive technology.
- Text and interface colours meeting AA contrast. Heritage gold is used only on dark backgrounds, never as small text on light ones.
- Forms with real labels, error messages tied to their fields, and validation that does not rely on colour alone.
- Text that can be resized without breaking the layout, and no horizontal page scrolling.
- No flashing content, and no information conveyed by motion alone.
Reduced motion
The homepage opens with a scroll-controlled cinematic sequence. If your device or browser is set to reduce motion, that sequence is replaced by a single still image and the same words presented as ordinary text. Smooth scrolling and parallax are switched off entirely. No content, navigation or call to action is lost — the reduced-motion version carries every word the animated one does.
You can turn this on in your operating system's accessibility settings; the site responds without needing a page reload.
The memorial grounds
Physical access information — path surfaces and gradients, accessible parking, seating and rest points, and accessible routes to the monument — is published here as the site is completed and surveyed.
