One of the last major Western Front actions of the Indian Corps infantry before it was redeployed to other theatres.
The Indian Corps took part in the supporting attacks around Neuve Chapelle and Fauquissart during the Loos offensive. Rifleman Kulbir Thapa of the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Gurkha Rifles was awarded the Victoria Cross for his actions on 25 September 1915, remaining behind enemy lines and bringing wounded men — both British and Gurkha — back to safety over the course of a day and a night.
By the end of 1915 the Indian infantry divisions had been withdrawn from France for service in Mesopotamia, Egypt and Palestine.
